The sound notification feature was launched in November 2012 as test feature, now its being rolling out on more users- almost everyone. If you are enabled the feature you can hear a ‘beep‘ sound when receives new notifications. If you are an active Facebook user probably you will get many notification, so it might be irritating.
It’s one of the most annoying feature released in 2012. Because, when you listening to music, these random beeps will interrupts you. Here the interesting thing is that when Facebook testing new minor features/tweaks it will enable by default without any prior notice. As result, when its rolled out, users got worried about the beeps. They were not realized that’s the sound is from their timeline.
Disabling sound notifications can be done in just a few steps:
Step 1: Click on the Settings menu in the upper-right corner of your Facebook page.
Step 2: Click on the Notifications option in the menu on the left-hand side.
Step 3: Click View next to On Facebook, On Facebook and is located in the How You Get Notifications sub-section.
Step 3: Uncheck the box next to “Play a sound when each new notification is received.”, then Click ‘Save Changes’
Note that this check box controls all of the notification sounds. And if you change your mind, you can always go back and flip them back on.
