During the holiday season, Apple generated more money than ever before, and in 2021, the company sold 150 million active devices. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced last night that there are now 1.8 billion active Apple devices.

Apple’s recent focus on untapped markets has been one factor for the massive growth in active users. Since Apple started putting more resources into India in recent years, iPhone adoption has been off the charts. Back in 2020, it opened an official online store in India that offered customers several benefits. It is predicted that Cupertino will continue expanding into new markets and introducing new product lines to attract more customers in the future.

Apple reported 1.65 billion active devices in January 2020, up from 1.5 billion a year earlier. Cook did not elaborate on Apple’s smartphone details, but the company passed the 1 billion active iPhone milestone a year ago. Apple sold its billionth iPhone in 2016 and then hit 900 million active iPhone users in 2019. According to Apple, a device is active if it has interacted with an Apple service during the past 90 days, so 1.8 billion devices are covered.

The Google Play Store has been accessible by over 3 billion Android devices since Google announced last year. The number of Android-based devices is likely higher than three billion, including those that use alternative stores. Windows 10 and Windows 11 have now been activated on over 1.4 billion devices, Microsoft revealed earlier this week. In addition to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft also counts these devices under Windows 10.

This year, Apple posted record profits of $34.6 billion and revenue of $123.9 billion for the first quarter of its fiscal year. In the third quarter, the iPhone alone brought in $71.63 billion in revenue, thanks to holiday sales.
