The virtual world is coming closer to the actual world as the years go by. With the majority of social media platforms like Snapchat offering virtual Avatars to its users, Meta is also constantly introducing new features to its Avatars.

After introducing Avatars on VR last year, Meta (Previously Facebook) has introduced new 3D avatars on Instagram stories and Direct Messages. This was announced by Aigerim Shorman, General Manager of Avatars and Identity on 31st January 2022 through the official blog of Meta.

Users have the option to create three separate Avatars for Facebook, Instagram and VR to let them decide how they wish to express themselves through the platforms. Alternatively, they have the option to sync their avatars across these platforms if you have set up the Accounts Center. So, if you make a change in your Avatar on one platform, it will automatically update on the others.

You can use your new 3D avatar in your Facebook profile picture, comments section, stickers, stories and more. The 3D feature has been launched in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Updated Avatars on Facebook and Messenger

Jointly, Meta also announced an update on existing avatars in Facebook and Messenger. This update includes avatars that have assistive devices like wheelchairs, cochlear implants and over-the-ear hearing aids available in different colors. The company has also introduced facial tweaks with added skin shades and shapes.

This update was launched so billions of people on this planet get a chance to express themselves as uniquely as they are. Meta has kept adding new facial features to the Avatar editor throughout 2021 and will keep doing so throughout the year.

The company has also partnered with NFL to bring the Football world to the Avatars world. This will aid the fandom to support their team before the Super Bowl. Through their Avatars, users can choose to support the Cincinnati Bengals or Los Angeles Rams. A neutral Super Bowl LVI shirt is also available for users who don’t wish to choose one team. The NFL clothing will remain live until 28th February 2022.

“We’re starting to experiment with digital clothing too, including official NFL shirts you can wear for the Super Bowl. You can use your avatar across Quest, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. One day you’ll have multiple avatars ranging from expressive to photorealistic”, stated Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta in a Facebook post.  He also shared a video attached to it, giving users a better look at these Avatars.

Don’t have a Facebook Avatar?

If you haven’t created your Avatar on any of the social media platforms, you can create it easily from the scratch. You get to choose from your eye color to your clothing and much more. Here are some easy steps to create your Avatar:

  1. Install the Facebook Application on your device.
  2. Tap on the three lines displayed on the right-hand corner of the toolbar and scroll down to select the “See More” option.
  3. Tap on “Avatars”.
  4. You will see an Avatar creator on your screen. Once you are done customizing your Avatar, click on “Done.”

With a goal to make Avatars move seamlessly from one place to another, Meta plans to keep updating its features to enhance the users’ experience.
