After vines and YouTube, Instagram has become the favorite destination for content creators. Reels have become exceptionally popular and it has helped creators increase their reach to a great extent. Because of the win-win situation that is created on the platform, the company has been focusing on offering features and tools that are ‘creator-centric’.
Meta is making sure that from now on both, Instagram and Facebook become platforms that promote content creation rather than simply being a platform where people connect. The new features that Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram has announced also align with the company’s view. The head wants to “make sure credit goes to those who deserve it.”
The company has released three new features; It is rolling out Product Tags that were previously available for some users for everyone. So, the creator of the product will be able to drive traffic from it. The second feature is Enhanced Tags which will let Instagram users assign themselves a category like “Photographer” and it will be displayed every time they are tagged in a post. The company has also been trying to enable the Product Tag feature on stories as well but there is no update on it yet.
While talking about the third feature, the head of Instagram gave emphasis on the importance of credit in a creator’s life. He said, “If you create something from scratch, you should get more credit than if you are re-sharing something that you found from someone else. We’re going to try and do more to try and value original content more, particularly compared to reposted content”
This means that the company is taking serious steps to value and give attention to creators who produce original content on the application. If you want further clarity on why the company is doing this, you can say that the company wants users to use the platform for primary content creation. The best way to push users in this direction is to promote or highlight original content and bury the plagiarized ones in the rankings.

Up until now, it has been platforms like TikTok or Twitter where trends are created but Meta still has the largest audience. This means that if the company takes the right steps it can change the go-to destination of content creation from these platforms to Facebook or Instagram.
It wants its fasts growing content format- Reels to reach its full potential. Recently Meta also released a ‘Sharing to Reels’ feature that allows people to share content to Reels directly from third-party applications and now it has taken a big jump with respect to ranking that says original content will garner the reach it deserves.
These efforts have been made so creators shift to Facebook or Instagram from the company’s competitors and focus on promoting their work on these platforms. All these features are attributed to creators and it will help them increase their voice.
