Meta CEO rolls out Horizon Homes on Quest 2 VR headset

Meta has made another step in the direction to build the Metaverse. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will be introducing Horizon Home as a part of the new update in its Quest 2 VR Headset.

Horizon Homes is a way that people can chill and hang out with their friends in the metaverse or the virtual world. Before this update, Quest 2 did not have a way for people to connect or socialize directly. You could play a game or attend a party but simply hanging out like all of us do in the real world was not an option in the virtual world.

With this update, users can create their own virtual space or home in the metaverse. This will be the place where you will be when you first put on your headphone. And if you are wondering what your home would look like, then you can select the style from certain pre-defined options. Meta also has plans to introduce a feature that will let users create their own environments.

“Invite friends to hang out, watch videos together, or jump into apps right from your virtual home. More options to customize your home space currently in development.”

-Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta

This update was first promised by CEO Mark Zuckerberg at Connect in 2021. The CEO announced this update through a Facebook post with Free Solo Climber, Alex Honnold. His post read, “Invite friends to hang out, watch videos together, or jump into apps right from your virtual home. More options to customize your home space currently in development.”

They also watched a 360-degree video of Alex Honnold climbing 1,000 feet up to demonstrate how the update will work and what users can do. Although Meta has continuously strived to increase its efforts in creating the metaverse, nothing is close to what it aims to create. In fact, the metaverse has already begun facing issues like harassment similar to what we do in the real world. Right now, all we can do is sit back and watch how Meta creates the metaverse.
