Team Sociobits: Since you have been in the music industry for some time now, could you tell us about your favorite compositions?

Raman Mahadevan: Every composition is special, but if I have to choose one then it is the first song I ever recorded, “Heyy Babyy”.

Team Sociobits: We have also noticed that you can sing in many languages, how do you do that?

Raman Mahadevan: I don’t know all the languages per se but I am fond of music. No matter what language, it is the music that drives me. I just pick it up and I try to make the best out of it.

Team Sociobits: Speaking of Sociobits, do you think there is a change due to this in the music industry, and will it affect us in the future?

Raman Mahadevan: I feel that it has already started affecting us and social media plays a big role in influencing artists in the music industry. Everything is related to social media nowadays and a lot of artists have achieved milestones in terms of viewers or audiences through social media. There is freedom where you can be yourself and do whatever that you want to do.

I think it will play a big role even ten years or twenty years down the line. I also think it is already playing a big role and people are posting religiously their work and sharing their videos. This is going to benefit a lot in the future.

Team Sociobits: You are not quite active on social media and you choose to keep your profile very low-key, can you tell us why?

Raman Mahadevan: I didn’t venture into social media as I like to keep my private space but nowadays it is good to have an audience for yourself so I have started posting short videos on social media in every language that I can.

Team Sociobits: The music that this generation listens to is somewhat different than what the previous generation heard. So, what is it that attracts you today?

Raman Mahadevan: Good music and lyrics always attract and I think this is the main thing for an audience of any generation. Good music always stays true to the audience.

Team Sociobits: Who has inspired you to stay in this industry? And is there someone that inspires you in today’s music industry?

Raman Mahadevan: There are a lot of artists; Ravi Sahab, Kishore Sahab, R.D. Burman, Shankar Mahadevan, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, A R Rahman, Vishal Bhardwaj, Vishal-Shekhar, and many more. Every artist gives you something to ponder on or linger on.

From today’s generation, I think I would say Badshah. He has been quite popular with the younger generation. It would be really cool to collaborate with them.

Team Sociobits: Do you have any future plans in the industry?

Raman Mahadevan: I am looking forward to working with new artists. I have also been doing a project with a friend from the Czech Republic and we have released four singles so far. You can listen to it on our YouTube channel.

Team Sociobits: Is there any message that you would like to give to the next generation of musicians or singers?

Raman Mahadevan: Be yourself! Believe in your music, and style, and don’t try to be someone else. Because when you are a new person in the industry, you tend to have inspiration and try to be like them. There is nothing wrong with it but you have to create your niche. So, just be yourself and work hard. Luck also plays a big role, but hard work goes hand-in-hand.

From talking about his favorites to guiding aspiring singers and musicians, Mr. Raman Mahadevan has contributed and will continue to contribute a lot to the Indian music industry.
