The Indian e-commerce giant, Flipkart has partnered with eDAO, a decentralized media and entertainment organization to give its shoppers a new metaverse shopping experience. Flipverse is a metaverse-based shopping platform that is part of the Flipkart Labs that was announced in April, focused on building use cases in the blockchain and metaverse. The company said that the objective to launch the Flipverse is to”flip” the shopping narrative.

According to a blog post by Flipkart, “Flipverse will offer gamified, interactive and immersive shopping experiences for consumers in a digital world by giving them access to their favorite brands.” The pilot for this will be available to be experienced on FireDrops, the company’s newly launched platform which is accessible via the Flipkart app from 18th October until 23rd October.

The company has tied up with around 15 brands including Nivea, Puma, Noise, Campus, Himalaya, etc. to be a part of the Flipverse. Users will also have their own avatars, choose their usernames and they can interact with multiple brands in the virtual world. They will also be able to collect digital collectibles and Supercoins, and the Flipverse will incorporate NFT drops, games, contests, and a lot more.

“The launch of Flipverse will continue to have an impact on innovative industries like e-commerce and enhance the customer experience while delivering a gamified and an immersive shopping experience, especially in light of the adoption of the metaverse and web3 platforms by multiple brands in India.”

Naren Ravula, VP and Head, Product Strategy and Deployment, at Flipkart Labs said, “The launch of Flipverse will continue to have an impact on innovative industries like e-commerce and enhance the customer experience while delivering a gamified and an immersive shopping experience, especially in light of the adoption of the metaverse and web3 platforms by multiple brands in India.”

The company wants to see whether brands are getting more attention through this and also the engagement of shoppers among many other metrics. It is unclear when will the company release the final rollout of Flipverse. As of now, the company is also not focusing on monetization benefits or looking to grow sales through this. Users cannot connect their crypto wallets at this point as the company is looking to gauge the kind of response customers will give to the Flipverse.
