Netflix, the online streaming platform is now testing to enable live streaming capabilities on its platform. According to reports, this capability is still in the early stages of development, and “a small group within Netflix is in the preliminary stages of developing the product.”

This will be used to air live content including stand-up specials and other unscripted shows. This also means that the company can air live reunion shows similar to the one held by “Selling Sunset”, a real estate reality show and it will also be used for live voting for competitions and talent shows.

Introducing participatory features like a voting option can increase the interaction people have while watching a show and help in retaining the subscriber count.

The video streaming giant also hosted its first live comedy festival, ‘Netflix Is A Joke‘ which included more than 130 comedians. This feature may help the streaming giant to explore the potential that live on-air stand-up shows can have. Users will also get to witness similar performances as they unravel rather than watching them later after it has been shot.

Although there are not many details available about this feature, the recent earnings report of Netflix showcased that it is losing subscribers. This could be one of the features that the company is rolling out in order to boost its subscribers.

After testing policies that limit people to share their accounts outside their household, the company reported a loss of 200k subscribers in Q1 2022. Although Netflix is not too worried about it and predicts this down-trend in subscribers can continue for some time, it is tackling this problem by introducing new features and providing quality content to its users.
