Facebook is Testing LinkedIn-like Prompt Asking Users to Complete their Profile

Facebook has started prompting some of its users on the desktop version of the website to complete their profile. It’s a new way to encouraging Facebook users to add more information about themselves and improve the targeting options for its advertisements. That’s why now Facebook is testing a new prompt asking users to complete their profile, just like on LinkedIn. A source close to the company confirmed with TNW that this feature is currently being tested with a small set of users. One of our fan was surprised to see this message at the top of her Facebook News Feed, below are some screenshots she sent us:
Facebook incompleted Profile 80 percent
It appears that her profile was 80 percent complete, meaning it only need two more piece of additional information, its asked for missing information, then she was informed her profile was 100 percent complete.
Facebook Completed Profile 100 percent
This feature is very similar to what LinkedIn users have been experiencing on their profile for years. The more information a user provides, the larger the percentage. Questions may include some choices which is based on your place and mutual friends. These details include basic information such as birthday, religion, languages, schools, as well as contact information such as phone numbers and address. These profile details are very highly relevant when it comes to the targeting options present for Facebook marketers. It is in Facebook’s best interest to have more users with a high completion percentage as it creates even more value as a marketing channel.

Speak Your Mind:

Let us know if you’ve seen this prompt on Facebook recently and what you were asked to add. Furthermore, did you add it?

A Tour Of Facebook’s Home On Android

Facebook Home, the social networking giant’s Android user interface takeover that was revealed last week, is set to be officially released on April 12 to the Google Play Store. It will replaces your standard Android’s homescreen with an immersive Facebook experience. Actually, It’s not exactly a Facebook phone, it’s not exactly an operating system, and it isn’t a rebuilt version of Google’s Android OS. What it is, technically anyway, is a collection of apps acting as one entity to deliver a full-skin Facebook experience for your Android phone, bringing users closer to photos, status updates, check-ins — and, someday, ads.
“We’re not building a phone. We’re not building an operating system, but we’re building something that’s a whole lot deeper than just an ordinary app,” Zuckerberg said..

Supported Devices

While the goal seems to be as many Android devices as possible, the initial roll out will include the HTC One, One X+, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 2. Having Ice Cream Sandwich or higher is a must, as is the latest version of the Facebook and Messenger apps plus the Facebook Home app.
While it’s not a phone or an app, Facebook explained in a diagram more clearly what this is.
Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg talked about the motivation behind this kind of technology:
What would it feel like if our phones were designed around people, not apps? … We want to bring this experience of having a home, of always knowing what’s going on around you, right to your phone. And we want to deliver this experience to as many people as possible.

Features:

Cover Feed- No more Homescreens

No more homescreens, it’s replaced by a new photo stream facility called “Cover Feed“. It’s just a constant stream of full-screen photos and stories you can just sit back and watch. Photos are overlayed by messages, icons, notification etc. By holding an image, users can see the whole picture. Facebook Home will surface notifications from Facebook, as well as for third-party apps, like e-mail, missed calls, and texts. By cover feed, users are able to tap icons and images to like them and read and leave comments. Tapping your own icon at the bottom of the screen opens a mini onscreen navigation array that lets you go back to a previous app, open messaging, or navigate to your apps launcher. Adam Mosseri, director of product at Facebook and lead designer of Home, said that the idea behind Home was to let users reach out and touch an icon on your screen to make something happen – swipe a story, press a photo, etc.

Chat Heads- New kind of Messaging

Facebook also introduced an interesting feature called Chat Heads. Simply it’s a new kind
of messaging system. If you’re reading a story or surfing somewhere off of the Facebook app, and a friend sends you a message, a little bubble pops up. Wherever they are on the phone, users can tap the button to respond to the message or swipe it away if they want to ignore and answer later. It pops up a person’s face and you can tap on their face and bring up a conversation without losing any context of what you’re doing in the app behind. It lets communication flow across the phone experience. It’s designed to let you tap in between multiple message threads.

Installation and availability:

Unless Facebook Home comes pre-installed on your phone, as with the HTC First and other future devices, you’ll download it as an app through Android’s Google Play store — starting April 12. You can launch it once or twice to get a feel for it, or let it take over completely. As an app, you’ll also be able to disable it and tweak certain settings and permissions.

Final Words:

Overall, Facebook Home will trim down the time it takes you to check Facebook. Considering Zuckerberg said we spend 20% of our mobile time on social and open our phones 100 times a day, those shaved seconds can really add up. Home and the HTC First will mostly appeal to hardcore networkers, but they give us a vision of Facebook’s ideal experience, how it wants us be perpetually connected. It’ll be each user’s decision just how social they want to be. However, if you like having your Facebook life separate from the other functions of your phone, then Facebook Home may be hard to swallow. Chat Heads follow you into any app, and although Zuckerburg and his employees gushed about it being the most delightful messaging system they’ve ever used, we could see the novelty wearing thin. As customizable as Facebook has tried to make the feature, unless you turn it off in your settings, Home is a constant companion. It will boil down to personal preference, but we don’t see ourselves rushing to download Home when it becomes quasi-available April 12.

Facebook Tests Twitter Like Quick Status-Posting Button in Top bar

After the roll-out of reply-to-comment feature, the social network giant Facebook reportedly testing a new feature “Post on your Timeline” button on its blue navigation bar at the top of all its pages. Facebook is testing a new button in its top blue bar on the left of name in the top-right corner that allows users to post a status or a photo/video quickly, from any page on the site. First spotted by Mashable reporter Alex Fitzpatrick on yesterday morning, here are some screenshots of the test:
facebook-new-button-on-topbar1
When you click on the button it will prompt you to “ What’s on your mind ” status box. You can also add photos or videos through that window.
Post on your Timeline- New feature on Facebook
It’s important to note that the user who got the feature obviously doesn’t have Facebook Graph Search or the new look news feed – two new features that Facebook is rolling out very slowly. Most recently, Facebook changed the name of its “Subscribe” button to “Follow” and also renamed subscribers to followers. This tweak came after Facebook built its own button similar to Twitter’s Follow button. (https://colorreflections.com/) It’s looks like, Facebook and Twitter regularly grab features from each other as the two social networks continue to overlap in use cases. Further readings: TNW, WPN

How to Turn Off Reply to Comment feature on Facebook Pages

Recently the social network giant, Facebook has rolled out a new feature which will enable users to reply on comments on fan pages and popular profiles. We are already posted a complete tutorial about activating reply-to-comment feature on Facebook for fan pages. Obviously, this feature will helps to increase interactions with fans and readers.

The working of threaded comment system is a little more sophisticated than simply putting the comments with the most replies at the top, and ties in with how Facebook generally prioritizes content for you based on your own social network and likes. So, the problem is that comments are won’t show in chronological order. It’s becoming an annoying feature, makes confusion among users.

After the roll out of the feature many page admins and users asked me to write an article about disabling reply to comment feature. I think they are right, even though it will improve the interaction, its making a bit confusion among readers. Almost users are not aware of this new threaded comment system, they are commenting on others comments as reply. So, we decided to write an article about turning-off threaded comments on fan pages.

How to De-activate Reply-to-Comments feature:

Reply to comments system can be easily disabled by following these simple steps:
  • Goto Facebook Page ( you are admin of )
  • Click on Edit page > Manage Permissions
  • Scroll down to replies, and un-tick the check box to disable this feature
  • Click on Save and you are done.
Once you disable it, will be not shown for new posts/updates, it won’t be activated for existing published updates with reply.

How to Enable Reply to Comments on Facebook Pages

We know, Facebook is all about engaging users, traditionally we used tagging system to notify the users about reply on comment. This was really a bigger headache. if the Facebook post has 100+ comments it should really difficult to figure out the original comment for which reply is made. It was the story of yesterday, now Facebook launched a new feature for fan page which will let you enable threaded comment system. That means users can directly reply to a comment, and it will appear right below it. The move would make it much easier for users to respond to individual comments left on wall posts and this feature definitely improve the engagement on your page. By default Facebook Reply-to-Comment is no enabled, you have to enable it manually. But if the page has more than 10,000 followers threaded replies will be automatically applied to profiles with  and opt in for brand Pages until July 10, 2013.
'Reply' Option to Comments

How to activate Reply-to-Comments feature:

Facebook threaded comment system can be activated by following these simple steps:
  • Go to Facebook Page ( you are admin of )
  • Click on Edit page > Manage Permissions
  • Scroll down to replies, and check the check box to enable this feature
  • Click on Save and you are done.
'Reply' Option to Comments
Once you enable it, will be shown for new posts/updates, it won’t be activated for existing published updates. This is a minor update, though from a page admin point of view, this is very useful for more user engagement.

Facebook Testing a New Timeline Version

The social network giant is testing a revamped layout for its Timeline among select users in New Zealand, It has a refreshed About section on the left panel as well as a new sub-menu that includes ‘Friends’, ‘Photos’, ‘Maps’ and ‘Likes’ boxes. This design tweak oraganizes posts in a single column instead of double-column layout, and adds user’s info in a box on the left panel. There is also an updated publisher box that looks a bit more modern than the existing design.  Overall, the header portion of a user’s Timeline is more monochromatic than the older design.
Facebook trials tweaked single-column Timeline design 2013
A Facebook representative told CNET that “this is a new design Facebook is testing with a small percentage of people to make navigating Timeline even easier.”   According to The Next Web report, the trial is available for a select number of users in New Zealand. The new tweaked Timeline is bit different from the profile redesign that was tested earlier this year.
Facebook trials tweaked new ‘Like Page’ button in New Zealand
Another image caught by TNW shows a new feature associated with posted links and Facebook Pages. There’s a new Like Page button under a status update from BuzzFeed links to an article. This link allows users to like their official Facebook page. There’s no idea on when, or if, this new Timeline might roll out for other users. Assuming the test phase goes well in New Zealand, Facebook will undoubtedly start rolling out the Timeline tweaks to the rest of the world soon.
