Facebook is making an update to its right-hand-side ads, soon you’ll be able to see bigger ads on sidebar of its desktop version.
Facebook announced today in its Business Page that they’re going to roll-out a new design for right-column ads. “They will use the same proportions as desktop News Feed ads, they will be larger in size, and there will be fewer of them” the company wrote in the blog post.
Here’s the preview of new ad unit:
The new ad design will start surfacing on users profiles in late April and should be complete the roll-out by the end of the summer, a Facebook spokesperson said to Adage. And for advertisers this slot will be open in the coming months.
According to the company, tests of the new ad unit saw three times more engagement than the old design. And also considering the factor, fewer ads, Facebook might charge higher price for this ad slot.

Facebook continues to experiment with the ‘Save feature’ which is originally begun testing back in July 2012. Then the test again spotted in November 2013 by MyTechSkool on mobiles. The test never ends, interestingly, as reported by TechCrunch, the ‘Save feature’ started appearing on web interface. It’s been only few days Facebook begins to experiment the read-it-later aka Save feature on its Desktop website, the test group were able to save ‘Links’, ‘Places’, ‘Music’, ‘Books’, ‘Movies’ and ‘TV Shows’ to the saved section.
Now it looks like Facebook has expanded its save feature, now some users can save Pages and Events to their Saved collections. Means users are able to store Pages and Events for reviewing it later. The saved pages goes to Saved Links collection and Events will be transferred to separate ‘Saved Events’ section.
Sociobits has got screenshots of new save button on Pages and Events which is appears to be testing on its website. We’ve gone through some Pages to dig more about save button, interestingly, we found that the new button is only appearing on those Pages which have the redesigned layout. Moreover it’s hidden under the dropdown menu near to the Share button. Means, users have to click on that dropdown button to reveal the save option.
The saved Pages are accessible from the saved links collection.
Now coming to Save button on Events, as usual it’s used to save Events for future, users are able to save it without saying they’re actually going to the Event or not. The button we spotted is sandwiched between the Join and Invite button. When we save an Event it will goes to Saved Events section. It’s also found in Calender list labeled as Saved Event.
Facebook might taken the save feature too seriously, that’s why it’s rolling out to every area of the social network. All the test reveals, literally, we could able to save almost anything on Facebook, such as Links, Movies, Books, Musics..and now Pages and Events too.
Given that Facebook has thrice earlier tested the Save feature and not yet rolled it into public. Maybe the ‘Save’ feature will get lucky the next time, or it might not. It would be interesting to see how things shape up in the near future.
It is unclear how many people are seeing the new feature, or if Facebook will choose to roll it out in a wider release.

So you gotta increase your Facebook fan page Likes and Reach Isn’t it? So that you’re here on SocioBits :) .Anyways meet me Krishna Moorthy a New author here on Sociobits and let me make some Boom bOom ;) . Here is my first article I’ll be sharing some crazy boom boom :P tips to increase your fan page reach and likes in days :).
Making up a fan page in a proper and neat way is Kinda difficult stuff for me, but if you gotta spend some pennies around you may get some good and real likes easily may be fake likes too ;) be careful. Here I’ll be sharing some easy methods to follow so that you can increase your fan page likes and reach like a boss.
You are not hearing this Mr.Page Owner but we are saying this.Yes, 45% of the Facebook users are not interested in spammy page updates. You may have noticed that many pages are updating their post every 3 minutes or 5 minutes but think of the users situation ,it really irritates them :( as a Fan Page you have to respect your readers or users so don’t spam their timeline. Last month Facebook limited the viewership of some pages because of massive spam reports. You can be in the safe side if you are moving in a normal way rather than a spammy way even your like rates increases and decrease of likes decreases :P.
Share Video’s Without Copyright Issues
Facebook researches came up with an interesting face that video fan pages are having the largest Reach in the whole world. It’s mainly because of the increasing bounce rate and engagement of a page. If you are sharing a cool and attractive video the users will click for sure ., there your page reach is growing up and if the video is damn attractive then a share is sure.Man Open the Insights and check your likes now :P.Be careful while sharing video’s give them proper credits else its subjected to copyright issues :).
Don’t Play with Web Links
If we have a fan page the first thing we try is sharing some web links to get some traffic out of it. But if you just check your insights you’ll come to know the massive difference between Normal Posts and Link Shares reach, dude its crazy like Pepper. It really kills your page reach. So if you are having a page with lot of likes do share a link per day.If the link is an attractive stuff related to the same niche then do share 2 Links/day :) That’s it :).
Share Text Status
Always share some text statuses which brings damn high reach to your fan page and this is the position where you feel like “Boss” .Yeah I’ve experienced this stuff with my page and I did sharing only text stuffs for a week. You know what my reach increased by 147% :).Try to share some attractive statuses it always helps :).
Be Unique Always
Aha! Its my quote ,really if someone comes to me and ask “How to become successful” I’ll say just this “Be Unique”. Just like that try sharing some unique stuffs in terms of videos and images to get more and more reach which turns to shares and more likes.
So Guys, try these crazy tips and if your page reach is not experiencing any Hike because of this tips! then I won’t be using internet for 1 Week! :P Don’t feel funny you know what I can live without food but Internet.Ah! let’s leave it.Anyways if you have any doubts please ask and if you have any methods please do share. Keep Visiting SocioBits :)

It looks like Facebook is testing a new way to encourage users to update their profile picture by adding “+ Make Profile Picture” button near to the photos.
As seen on the screenshot, the new button is placed directly above to the other buttons namely ‘Tag Photo’, ‘Add Location’ and ‘Edit’. Whenever the user clicks on “+ Make Profile Picture” it will opens up the crop tool. After cropping the desired area, clicking on the ‘Done Cropping’ will updates user’s profile picture to this new cropped one.
“+ Make Profile Picture” button is visible in all photo albums of the users including ‘Photos of You’, ‘Your Photos’, ‘Albums’ etc.
Actually this feature is already available to all users in the ‘Options’ menu in the photos.

Earlier this month, Facebook has announced a significant redesign for Facebook Pages. A fraction of Pages already moved to this design (Update: Now all Facebook Pages have this design). Now or in the coming weeks Facebook should update your Page too. Don’t be panic, most of the marketers are confused about the changes in the new redesign. As you think, there is a minor change in the cover photo size too. You must want to know the exact size of cover photo in order to make it awesome and perfect. By understanding the precise cover photo size you can apply your creativity on it which will make your Facebook Page more vibrant, colorful, and ultimately more engaging. So, here is the cheat sheet for your Facebook cover photo dimensions:
Facebook Cover Photo
The cover photo is the large banner image at the top of your Facebook Page. It’s displayed at 851px wide by 315px high.
In the new layout, optimal image size for cover photos is 851 x 315 pixels. You can either upload a cropped and resized image or wider image in which case you’ll be given a chance to move the image to choose the crop you’d like displayed. I suggest you to manually crop and resize the image by keeping in the mind the dimensions of profile picture and the gaps, using Photoshop or Lightroom, it gives more attraction to your cover photo.

Facebook Profile Picture
The Profile Image is the smaller, square at bottom left of the header, overlapping the cover photo. There is no changes to the profile photo in the redesign.
The size of the profile picture is 160×160 pixels but you have to upload an image at least 180x180px. The profile image will display 16 pixels from the left side of your cover photo and 176 pixels from its top.
Facebook wants to confirm whether you’re are on the right privacy settings the way you want -or not, that’s why the social network is came up with a new initiative which lets you review your current privacy selection and making aware of your selected audience.
Today, when I opened Facebook, a popup appeared titled ‘Privacy Checkup‘ which reads, “Hi Sreedev – Sorry to interrupt. You haven’t changed who can see your posts lately, so we just wanted to make sure you’re sharing this post with the right audience..”. It also provides a space to select the audience for future posts.
In the ‘Learn More’ link Facebook gave an explanation to why I’m seeing this, “Every time you post on Facebook you can decide who sees what you share. It looks like you haven’t changed who can see your posts in a while, so we’re just checking that your privacy is set the way you want. You’ll still able to change the audience any time you post something”.
Obviously, the campaign is meant for those people who haven’t changed the privacy selection more often, this would remind them about their selected audience and an option to change it.
It is clear that, the social network is trying hard to protect its users privacy. Through these kinds of initiatives users can ensure whether they are selected the right audience for their updates. And also helps to become more privacy aware.
Have you seen these kinds of campaigns? What’s your thoughts?
Facebook has updated ‘Friends Only’ group notification settings to ‘Friends and Admins Only’, from now, you will get notification about posts from groups admins too with your friends’ updates
Some Facebook users are seeing an announcement on Groups which reads,
Update to Notifications
Now you can choose to only receive notifications about posts from friends and group admins.
The Learn More button navigates to ‘How do I edit my notification settings for a group?’ help page. You can turn on notifications for All Posts, for Friends and Admins Only, or completely turn them Off.
Facebook pointed out in the help page, if the group has 250 members or more, its notification settings will be set to Friends and Admins Posts Only by default. Individual members of the group can still change their own notification settings.
What do you think about the updated group notification settings ? Will it be useful to group members?
The beloved characters from the upcoming movie ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ are the latest addition to Facebook’s sticker collection, which lets you express yourself when communicating with friends.
The movie ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ which is directed by James Bobin tells a story about muppets’ world tour. It’s a funny movie which is set to release on 21st March in the United States box office.
Muppets Most Wanted sticker pack includes 40 images of characters from the movie. The sticker pack is developed by Walt Disney Studios which is also a distributor of this film.
You can grab the sticker pack now, you’ll find it under the emoticon tab within Facebook chat window, or at this direct download link.
Facebook Poke, one of the oldest and mysterious feature in the social network, has got an add-on which lets you see how many time you’ve poked someone.
You can see your pokes activity on your pokes page. It will begin showing you how many times you’ve poked back and forth with a friend after you’ve poked them more than once. The poke counts will be shown next to “[name] poked you” labeling “[number] times in a row!”.
This is not first time Facebook is playing with the Pokes, recently the company had added search feature to the Pokes. However, it’s still a mysterious feature on the Facebook, people still don’t know what they actually meant for.
Do you remember that redesigned Facebook News Feed which is launched exactly a year ago? You might have in the waiting list if you have applied for it. Now, the wait is over, finally, Facebook is rolling out an improved version of that old News Feed redesign to everyone.
The announcement was made in Facebook business blog saying, “You may recall that last year we experimented with a complete redesign of News Feed for desktop and mobile. People who tested it told us that they liked the bigger photos and images, but found it more difficult to navigate Facebook overall,” wrote Facebook. “The updated design has the best of both worlds: it keeps the layout and navigation people liked, but offers bigger images and photos, as well as a new font.”
In the redesigned News Feed you’ll be able to see new fonts for the texts, bigger photos and tweaked icons. And the changes made to its left and right columns (old redesign) including the drop-down menu for different feeds are gone which is due to difficulties in navigating stories.
In this case, the new look has got more simplified comparing to the current design. The changes includes, larger button for “people you may know” section and also tweaked icons on the various tabs across the top.
Facebook further claimed the new News Feed won’t effect how content is surfaced to people, nor do they change how stories are ranked in News Feed, these changes are only visual updates. The new design will roll out to users in the “coming weeks.”
Facebook just issued an update to its news-feed app ‘Paper‘. The new Paper version 1.0.2 includes many nifty features and several improvements including those in the form of reliability and performance.
Major improvements in the new Paper are, now you can share articles via Facebook Message, text message or email. And Facebook also brought a new option to turn-off sound effect while using the app, so you can go through posts of your friends and family in peace.
New Paper also lets you create stories in other languages such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
It’s time to say good bye to ‘@facebook.com’ email address, the social network announced Monday that the company is going to retire from its ‘unpopular’ email service. Currently, messages sent to your @facebook.com email address are delivered to your Facebook Messages. But soon, new emails sent to your Facebook email will be forwarded to your primary email address.Facebook’s email service was launched back in November 2010 with an objective to streamline all communications under a single umbrella. But, unfortunately the feature weren’t became popular, may be it’s because of lack of a good user interface or absence of cc’s, bcc’s, or subject lines.
As a part of this change, any current Facebook conversations that include an email address will become read-only. This means that you’ll still be able to view the conversation, but you’ll no longer be able to reply to it from your Facebook Messages.
However, it’s good decision taken by the company, actually many users are still don’t know they had a Facebook email address, they never used it. Facebook also confirmed the same to The Verge saying. “Most people have not been using their @facebook.com email address”. A Facebook spokesperson said to Inside Facebook that the change will happen in early March.
Finally, the most requested, Facebook Messenger is landing on Windows Phone platform. Microsoft has confirmed the chat application will be available on Windows Stores very soon.
The announcement has made yesterday at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona by the tech giant Microsoft. “Facebook Messenger is probably one of the most requested individual apps we have our customers asking for,” Joe Belfiore, the corporate vice president of Microsoft Windows Phone, said during the event.
“We’ve been working with Facebook testing out their implementation for a while. It’s looking good and we will have it for our customers soon.”, Belfiore said.
According to ThinkDigit, Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone will definitely bring in the complete set of stickers, the ability to share media and location sharing besides basic chat functions.
The social networking giant recently acquired popular cross platform instant messaging service ‘WhatsApp’ for US$ 19 billion in a cash and stock transaction.
Are you using Windows Phone? If yes, are you excited about Facebook Messenger launch?
