Facebook’s ‘Buy’ Button Turns Pages into Storefronts

With the flurry of e-commerce business all around, Facebook too seems heading into the direction by adding a Buy button to all Facebook pages for businesses, according to a report on BuzzFeed. Therefore, users can not merely read up information about the business but can actually head to a virtual store to shop for stuff. Facebook has officially confirmed that there is a whole lot of work to be done of their Pages in the near future. The virtual shopping functionality is currently in testing mode but few pages already reveal presence of the button already. Therefore, users can now gear up for a complete shopping experience—right from product discovery to final checkout.

Emma Rodgers, Market Manager for Products, Facebook says, “With the shop section on the page, we’re now providing businesses with the ability to showcase their products directly on the page.” Facebook is not alone in the bandwagon that is going crazy over e-commerce and now joins the likes of Twitter and Pinterest. Give that Google has added a buy tab to its adverts today, this is only natural.

The addition of such a feature is significant for Facebook since it intends to convert the business pages into shopping hubs for a faster and more reliable user experience. Facebook has also recently added hours and OpenTable integrations on its pages. Therefore, it is evident that the Buy tab will make the business listings or pages a very “visible part of the user experience.”

In case Facebook can revamp the Pages it will mean that these will attract more traffic via these pages instead of the newsfeed only. Companies such as FourSquare and Yelp will need to be wary of Facebook in this regard. However, it is yet to be seen if this feature interest users as much as typical e-commerce sites have been doing in the past few years. (conversionwise.com)
