After months of twists and turns, the Elon Musk-Twitter saga has finally concluded with the Tesla Head (now also Chief twit according to his Twitter) acquiring the social media giant for $44 billion. Elon Musk has kickstarted its association with the company in the most Elon-Musk-way, by firing top executives including CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, Legal Affairs and Policy Chief Vijaya Gadde, and Sean Edgett, the General Counsel.
He also entered the Twitter Head Quarters very stylishly with a white porcelain sink yesterday posting a video on Twitter saying “let that sink in!”
He has accused them of misleading him and the investors at Twitter about the number of bot accounts on the platform and Musk’s plan is to “defeat” spam bots on the platform. People who are familiar with the matter said that Parag Agrawal and Ned Segal were at the headquarters when the deal closed and were escorted out by security.
Musk has not offered a lot of clarity on how will he run Twitter, who will be the head, etc. But he has said that he is planning to cut around 7,500 jobs at the company and also wants the platform to not be a chamber of hate and division, even though he plans on limiting censorship. With this, he has also said that he actually bought the company “to try to help humanity, whom I love” and it is not at all about money.
After several public comments that Mr. Musk has made about his plans with Twitter, which the company’s employees think lack detail, he also wrote an elaborately long message for the advertisers on Twitter. While people thought the decision whether or not Musk will buy Twitter will bring a sigh of relief, the Tesla Head is taking everyone on a rollercoaster ride. Maybe the acquisition is the beginning of another saga.
