Twitter recently announced that it has accepted the deal Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla previously offered the company. The saga of Twitter’s acquisition has been quite long but no one would have imagined in 2017 that Musk would ever consider buying Twitter. A tweet that has been circulating on the internet says otherwise.
Elon Musk, on 4th April 2022, bought a 9.2% stake in Twitter. Following this, the company offered him a seat at the table as there is a limit to the percent of shares a board member can hold in the company. This could have dismissed the power of Musk from buying the company. But, nothing stopped Elon Musk from acquiring Twitter after he declined the seat.

He offered to buy the company and although didn’t threaten Twitter but teased that he has Plan B in case the company rejects the offer. At last, Elon Musk acquired Twitter on Monday for $44 billion!
We can say that this has been going on for a couple of months. If we go back a little, in March the CEO was also thinking of building its own social media platform.
He tweeted, “Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?” Instead of building the next Twitter, he bought the company.
Surprisingly, another tweet from December 2017 has been going around on Twitter amidst all of this is shocking the internet. The thread of tweets displays Musk jokingly conversing with a social media user, Dave Smith. The thread ends with Elon Musk asking about the monetary value of Twitter.
In the beginning, Musk tweeted “I love Twitter.” and the social media user, Dave Smith responded with a suggestion to “buy it”. It ends with Musk asking him, “how much is it?” but the best part is he revisited the thread a few days ago and left an upside-down face emoji.
This has caught the internet’s attention with the question of whether Musk was planning to buy the company all along? Some netizens also went ahead to jokingly continue the conversation with tweets like, “Please buy Brazil too.”
Dave Smith also shared a snap of this conversation with the caption, “This exchange continues to haunt me.” After the turn of events that have taken place recently, it seems clear why netizens are going crazy about the thread.
