What Makes The Internet Ironic Enough To Hate It

When we talk about social media it’s always about ‘being social’ but, what if I say social media leads to introversion

Yes! Heard it right. This is one of the biggest ironies of social media. On one hand it offers you this chance of being highly social but on the other hand it slams the door towards reality.

How many of you find it better to have a long chat with your friends online rather than attending a social gathering? Well, many of us do. And this behavior of yours would get you the label of being antisocial but then how can a person play double role, being the most socially alive in a digital world and being antisocial in reality?

When all the emotions are brought down under two categories: LIKE or DISLIKE

Today morning I found a picture of my friend’s dog on Facebook with a farewell quote on it. That was hurting but I found over two hundred people liking it. I wondered how people can LIKE such a tragic incident.

When I enquired about this, my friend said it was their way of showing concern. So the other day when my aunt posted that she had turned 40 which had 65 likes on it, were people showing their concern too, concern for her growing old?

Now since we have talked about concern.

Are people really concerned?

We see people commenting and posting about some relevant issues showing their concern and demanding a change. Yes they are concerned but only a small difference a large proportion of them are concerned only about the likes and comments that would follow it and are demanding some attention. People post about social issues and pictures of accidents and tragedy but the saddest part is that what follows them are a few 100 likes.

While talking about social media marketing eye catching phrases like authenticity and transparency would grab our attention but then what doesn’t catch our eye is that social media marketing can never be so clean without any CONDITIONS BEING APPLIED.

The freedom to express

Yesterday I was so disappointed with my friend that I used my status to express my feelings. I felt light and satisfied as I was able to express this somewhere but then the same friend liked it and told me it was an awesome status.

Social media gives us the platform to express ourselves but are many a times there occurs miss-communication in this expression and we end up in awkward situations.

Who doesn’t like a little bit of attention? But then what if this becomes too much attention and leads to stalking?

According to Wikipedia

‘Cyberstalking is the use of the internet or other electronic means to stalk or harass an individual, group, or an organization. It may include false accusations defamation slander and libel. It may also include monitoring, identity theft, threats, vandalism, solicitation for sex, or gathering information that may be used to threaten or harass’

In simple word cyber stalking can be seen as ‘somebody is too interested to follow your online actions and harass you’

Well, social media might have given you the platform to express but then we shouldn’t forget that this is also a platform where there occurs expression of one’s meaning by using a language that normally signifies the opposite, making social media ironic.
