OnePlus lists several features of iPhone that Android brands cannot copy

When OnePlus first made its debut on the market five years ago, the majority of people who were interested in technology hardly gave the company more than a passing thought. The company is making rapid strides towards expanding its global footprint and is now widely acknowledged as a significant player in the market for smartphones. Additionally, it is beginning to expand into new sub-industries within the technology sector.

You might be familiar with the brand name OnePlus, but you probably don’t know much else about the company itself. How long has this particular company been in operation? What kinds of services are offered by it? What do you think the reason behind its widespread acceptance is? This OnePlus buyer’s guide will provide the answers to many of those questions, in addition to possibly answering some questions you haven’t even thought of yet.

OnePlus is a Chinese tech firm that focuses on mobile devices. Above you can see CEO Pete Lau and Director Carl Pei, who founded the company in late 2013. (Pei, however, has now left the company to start his own called Nothing). Prior to joining BBK Electronics, both Lau and Pei worked for OPPO, another popular Chinese tech company.

At first, it appeared that OnePlus was an offshoot of OPPO. However, neither firm acknowledged any such thing. They countered that OnePlus was in fact its own distinct entity. However, with BBK at the helm of both companies, OnePlus benefited from OPPO’s extensive infrastructure. This meant that OnePlus didn’t have to spend as much money on research and development, manufacturing equipment, etc., and could instead focus on making its products.

What does OnePlus offers?

OnePlus, as was mentioned before, mainly makes Android smartphones. In its early days, it was famous for producing cheap, powerful phones with distinctive aesthetics. This was evident in the company’s first smartphone, the $300-starting-price OnePlus One.

The price increase occurred gradually as the company solidified its position in the market. The OnePlus 11 (its flagship phone that year) debuted in 2023 and cost $699. That’s still less than the Google Pixel 7 Pro, which costs an extra $200, and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus, which begins at $999.

OnePlus stands out from the crowd by taking a more minimalist approach to both its hardware and software. The company’s mobile devices are consistently sleek and easy to use. Oxygen OS, the company’s software, has been praised in the past as a top Android skin. The software’s speed, smoothness, and lack of bloat were frequently cited as the reasons for this acclaim. Recent updates to Oxygen OS have deviated from this path, frustrating some users.

OnePlus has always been committed to selling and promoting their products exclusively online. Rather than visiting a carrier or dealing with a middleman, you can buy almost everything you need from OnePlus.com. Fans are disappointed that the company’s products are now only available in select regions of the world.

Oneplus executive enumerates iPhone capabilities

OnePlus’s executive said the iPhone’s hardware makes it hard for Android to match its features. “Special features” are summarised here.

  1. Live photo
  2. Movie mode
  3. Live text
  4. Dolby video
  5. Proraw
  6. Local HDR

These capabilities require optimised software or hardware. These features may influence mobile phone purchases. Some Android phones have these features. OnePlus’s “special” claim baffles us.

Live photo

Apple presented a brand new function known as Live Photo in conjunction with the launch of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in the year 2015. A few seconds of video and audio are recorded both before and after a still photo is taken with the camera by the user. When users click and hold down on an image, they will be treated to an animation that they can enjoy. Users of iOS devices have the ability to take and send Live Photos to their friends and family through iMessage and AirDrop thanks to the Camera app on their devices. Users also have the option to export the videos or GIFs as multimedia files. This option is available to them. Live Photos additionally record sound, which can later be retrieved and played back to enrich the experience.
Live Photos are now being supported not only by the native Camera app, but also by third-party applications and services. Live photos can be shared on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, where they can be viewed by users. Additionally, Google Photos has the capability to automatically convert Live photos into cinemagraphs, which are short animations. Because in addition to the still image, Live Photos also include the video and audio that was captured at the time the photo was taken. This can make it difficult to store Live Photos. Disabling Live Photo in the camera’s settings is an option for users who only want to capture still images with their device.

Movie mode

Within the iPhone, there is a mode called “Movie” that functions as a video recorder. This mode enables users to record videos of a high quality using the device’s internal camera. You are able to record in 4K at a frame rate of 60 frames per second, and it is compatible with all of the most recent iPhone models (fps).
Because it allows for such a wide variety of customizations, the Movie mode on the iPhone is an extremely useful tool for both aspiring and established filmmakers. During the recording process, users have the ability to make adjustments to the exposure and focus, as well as apply filters, to give their videos a distinct appearance. When shooting handheld video with an iPhone, maintaining a steady hand is made easier by the device’s built-in image stabilisation technology, which also helps reduce camera shake. Another useful feature of the Movie mode is that it allows you to switch between the front and back cameras while the recording is still in progress.

Live text

Users are now able to easily and quickly pull text from images for a variety of purposes, thanks to the introduction of Live Text in iOS 15 and macOS Monterey. Live Text can be found in both operating systems. Live Text allows users to extract text from a variety of sources, including images, screenshots, and even live video feeds. You can also use it to look up information related to the topic at hand, such as the summary of a book or the menu of a restaurant.
Using the intelligence provided by the device itself, Live Text makes it easy to interact with text that is found in images. This feature can be extremely helpful if you are pressed for time and would rather not manually type out the information that is displayed in an image. Deciphering handwritten messages is another one of Live Text’s capabilities. The user can quickly convert these images into text that can be edited with this software.

Dolby video

Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) recording is supported on all of Apple’s most recent iPhone models, including the iPhone 12. Users of this technology can capture video with vivid colours and distinct contrasts in their recordings. The finished product is a truly captivating show for those who watch it. Because more information is captured in the video’s highlights and shadows with Dolby Vision, the colour and tone range that can be displayed on a screen using this technology can be more dynamic.
The Camera app on the iPhone grants users prompt access to the Dolby Vision HDR video recording functionality of the device. After choosing the video mode, swipe to the right to access the settings menu in order to activate Dolby Vision HDR. It is important to keep in mind that videos captured in this format require more storage space than regular videos do. Because of this, you will need to ensure that your device has sufficient free space or that you have access to iCloud storage in order to keep them.

Proraw

Both of Apple’s most recent iPhone models, the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max, are equipped with this feature. Users who have ProRAW installed on their cameras have the ability to take pictures in a format that combines the benefits of RAW capture with those of the computational photography capabilities of the camera. With the help of this feature, users are able to take pictures in a format that saves all of the information that the sensor initially recorded, including the colour, the exposure, and any other settings. To start using ProRAW, navigate to the settings menu of the Camera app on your iPhone and select the option to use ProRAW. Because ProRAW files are significantly larger than regular photo files, you should always check to make sure that your device has sufficient storage space.

Local HDR

A feature called Local HDR is available on certain iPhone models, and it enables users to take photographs that are richer in tonal range and more detailed than those taken using the standard photo mode (High Dynamic Range).
When you use the Local HDR feature on your iPhone, it will take a series of photos with varying exposures, and then combine all of those photos into a single final picture. This technique can be very helpful in many situations, such as when you are photographing a landscape that has a bright sky but a dark foreground, as an example.
In contrast to the global effect that is produced by the HDR mode that is selected by default, the Local HDR mode selectively applies the HDR effect to certain parts of a photograph. Because of this, the finished product has a higher level of fidelity with regard to the level of detail as well as the colour.
