Recently Google has announced ‘Bard’, a competitor for ChatGPT that uses Google’s own language model i.e. Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA). The announcement comes only a few days after Google CEO Sundar Pichai detailed the company’s progress during an earnings call. Google said in a blog post that it is making Bard available to “trusted testers” ahead of making it broadly available to the public in the coming weeks.
What is ‘Bard’?
Bard is powered by LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications), a large language model that was developed and released by Google in 2021. Pichai said they will be initially releasing Bard on a “lightweight” version of LaMDA that would require significantly less computing power, enabling them to scale to more users and seek more feedback. It will provide detailed answers to user prompts such as “plan a friend’s baby shower”, “compare two Oscar-nominated movies,” or “get lunch ideas based on what’s in your fridge”.
Bard is an “experimental conversational AI service” which is powered by Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a blogpost on Monday. This announcement comes as the tech giant’s flagship search business faces renewed competition from its Big Tech peer Microsoft which recently made a reported $10 billion investment in the upstart artificial intelligence (AI) research lab OpenAI and plans to add artificial intelligence capabilities across its range of software products including Google rival Bing.
Sundar Pichai in the blog post mentioned:
“Whether it’s applying AI to radically transform our own products or making these powerful tools available to others, we’ll continue to be bold with innovation and responsible in our approach. And it’s just the beginning — more to come in all of these areas in the weeks and months ahead”.
So sooner or later, there are going to be many upgradations and transformations in the tool. It will surely be user friendly and very effective as Google has always been concerned about the user interface every time. Google makes sure that everyone is able to use their tools without stressing out. Apart from the easy user interface, we believe the response time will also be very less and effective.
Bard is obviously going to be a very important project for Google as it is emerging as a competition To ChatGPT which is very trending these days around the world. Even Sundar Pichai in his blog post mentioned Bard as –

Today, everyone is amazed with the capabilities of chatbots and after the launch of ChatGPT by OpenAI backed by Microsoft, there are a lot higher expectations from Google. The ‘Bard’ is undoubtedly going to blow our minds but there arises a question that if the Chatbot would give a tough competition to ChatGPT and could match the popularity game.
